Rugby Oregon's Red Hawks girls all-star team is bound for Las Vegas next month to participate in the Las Vegas Invitational, North America's largest and most prominent rugby tournament. Their matches will be played alongside the annual USA Sevens international tournament.
"We have a great bunch of girls," head coach Stew Magorian said of the team headed to the tournament, which runs Feb. 12-14. "There is some raw talent in there too but I feel, along side the more experienced players and some hard work in the build up, we could be the team to watch."
The Red Hawks represent members of seven high school programs who will match up against some of the premier high school programs in the country. They have the opportunity to impress new High School Girls All American head coach Mollie McCarthy, who will be in attendance. They expect to build on the success they enjoyed at last summer's Serevi Cup tournament in Seattle, when they reached the finals against an All-American girls team. The Red Hawks lost 5-0 on a score in the final minute of the match.
The Red Hawks consist of McKenna Davis, captain, and Lauren Garrison, vice captain, and members Sui A'au, Anna Aguon, Karissa Postula, Kayleigh Horecky, Abigale Spencer, Rachael Beaudoin, Courtney Fabionar, Estephani Gonzaga, Lakayla Gillaspie, Madison Murphy and pool players Molly Eisenschmidt and Adriana Mendoza.
