Rugby Oregon is proud to host the Great Northwest Challenge, one of five USA Rugby Regional Cup Tournaments, on June 25 and 26, 2016 at the Crystal Lakes Sports Fields, 100 SE Fischer Lane, Corvallis, OR.

For high school rugby players hoping to reach the heights of a USA Rugby national team, the Regional Cup Tournaments (RCT) offer the High Performance pathway to the High School All-Americans and on to Junior and Collegiate All-American teams, as well as the Men’s and Women’s Eagles.  The RCTs also attract college recruiters from across the country and have become a showcase opportunity to connect players with colleges.

The goal of each RCT is to showcase the very best talent for JV (Freshman and Sophomores) and Varsity (Juniors and Seniors) rugby in the area.  From here players will be scouted by USA Rugby Coach-appointed scouts and nominated to the High School All Americans (HSAA).

In 2016, RCTs will be held in five locations across the United States: Portland, Ore.; Charlotte, NC; Denver, CO; West Point, NY and Chicago, IL. USA Rugby selectors will attend each RCT to nominate athletes for the Stars v Stripes Camp.

“These Regional Cup Tournaments are not only a great way to showcase the quality of rugby at the high school level, but also a great way to bring the best players in the country together for selection to the high performance pathway,” USA Rugby High Performance Player Development Manager Luke Gross said.

To compete in a RCT, players must be enrolled in high school for the 2015-16 academic year and join an all-star or travel team participating in his or her local RCT. Players should contact local State Rugby Organizations for more information on all-star and travel teams.

The event has drawn High School Girls and Boys All Star and Traveling teams from Northern California, Southern California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Hawaii.  Teams will enter in either the Junior Varsity (Freshman and Sophomore) or Varsity (Junior and Senior) divisions.   Back by popular demand, we will host a Grades 7 and 8 Boys Division with expected participation from teams in Oregon, Washington, Montana and Idaho.
