Referee Requirements

Rugby Oregon is committed to promoting Safety in all aspects of the game of rugby. In furtherance of that effort, Rugby Oregon is committed to providing certified and properly trained referees for all of our matches. Rugby Oregon recognizes that referees are a necessary and integral part of the game and fully supports training, coaching and evaluation of referees to promote the safe enjoyment of the Game.

USA RUGBY REFEREE REQUIREMENTS 

All Rugby Oregon referees must have an active status with USA Rugby in order to guarantee team liability coverage. The following three items must be complete and current in order to have active status with USA Rugby.

The requirements below must be completed prior to officiating any Rugby Oregon matches.

 

Please send a copy of completion to info@rugbyoregon.com and retain a copy of all certifications for your reference.

1.  ANNUAL registration as REFEREE with USA Rugby. Membership cycle September 1 – August 31

2.  Player Protection Package

a.  Pass BIENNIAL background screen with USA Rugby.
This requirement is initiated through USA Rugby coach registration. Fee included in annual coach registration fee.
 
b.  ANNUAL Completion of the SafeSport Course. No Fee.
Log in to SafeSport using your USA Rugby login information so that the SafeSport course completion will be associated with your USA Rugby account
 
c.  ANNUAL NFHS Learn Concussion in Sports Course. No Fee.
Oregon Senate Bill 721A requires annual training

 

3.  USA Rugby Level 1 Officiating Clinic (in person)

Course is offered annually (January) to the Rugby Oregon community. Please contact info@rugbyoregon.com for specific dates, fees and registration information. This coaching clinic is also offered at other locations. Please click HERE for a current list of course offerings.
