Areas of Need
Every year Rugby Oregon identifies programs and projects that focus on rugby outreach and development, education and safety. Below is a description of the different areas where your gift can make a difference.
Unrestricted gifts are the most impactful because they are able to be directed to wherever the need is greatest. These gifts support scholarship funds and educational programming for coaches and referees, as well as outreach programs that foster and grow the game in Oregon and SW Washington communities.
The Rugby Oregon scholarship fund was created in an effort to support the needs of those who may not otherwise have the means to participate in youth sports. At this time, over 30% of our population is estimated to participate in the Free and Reduced Lunch school programs, a determining factor for support.
The Try On Rugby initiative is dedicated to getting more girls and women involved in Rugby, the newest Olympic sport! We believe that every girls should have the opportunity to run, pass, kick and score the game-winning try! Try on Rugby events encourage girls and women to Try on Rugby in supportive, FUN and positive environment.
Development professionals, Troy Hall and Stew Margorian, and their Rugby Development Instructors are out in the community every week running rugby programs in clubs, schools (PE classes) and other community-based organizations. The programs are fun, fast and inclusive! The rugby games and activities are dynamic and engaging, and keep every participant moving throughout every session. The goal is to always create a respectful and supportive learning environment for all involved and to give every boy and girl a positive and fun first rugby experience.
